A rare bird called the Crested kingfisher, which has disappeared since 1949, was found near the Hamyang Namgang River at the foot of Jirisan Mountain in 2024.

The crested kingfisher is a very large kingfisher, about 37.5 cm that lives in parts of South Asia.

The four subspecies distributions of the crest kingfisher also vary: M.L. Continentalis found in the western central Himalayas from Afghanistan to Bhutan, M.L. Gutulata found in the eastern Himalayas from Bhutan to Vietnam, China, and North Korea, M.L. palida found in central China and northern Indochina, and finally M.L. lugubris found in central and southern Japan.
