너구리 ( Raccoon Dog )

I saw two raccoons appear in Tancheon last summer for the first time.

 

Originally endemic to East Asia, it is similar at first glance to raccoon in North America. So, they share names according to neighborhoods. A raccoon is called a raccoon dog in English. In Korean, raccoon is called an American raccoon because it is a raccoon-like animal living in the United States.
