'23.04.18 I went to Gochang Gusipo Beach after hearing that a few Chinese Crested Terns came back after last year, and fortunately, I was able to shoot from a close distance during high tide. The male was wearing a banding on his leg that read PA.
It is believed to have been extinct for 63 years since 1937. However, a small number of breeding populations have been known on some islands in China since four pairs of breeding populations were discovered in the Matsu Islands in 2000. In April 2016, the National Institute of Ecology first discovered breeding on Yuksando Island in Yeonggwang-gun, Jeollanam-do, during a natural environment survey of unmanned islands.
It breeds only on five islands (Jiushan Islands, Wuzhishan Islands, Matsu Islands, Penghu Islands, and Chilsando Island), including China and Korea, and winters mainly in eastern Indonesia and the Philippines.
